This page describes what this site actually does with data.

Reading

Reading stories requires no account. We record basic page views and the actions of saving, sharing and copying links, with the page address and time only. We don't record your IP address with these events, your search text or anything that identifies you.

Saved stories

Saved stories are stored in your own browser (local storage) on this device. We never receive the list. Clearing your browser data removes it.

Newsletter

Email delivery of The Brief is not live yet, and this site does not collect email addresses for it.

Contact and advertising forms

Messages you send are stored in a private editorial inbox that only our editors can read. We keep a one-way scrambled fingerprint of your connection for an hour-long spam limit, not your IP address itself. Please don't send confidential information.
