The retreat, the avatars and a very exclusive problem

Seven days in legal leadership. Very little leadership identified.

Good morning,

The legal profession spent this week demonstrating that exclusivity can belong to two companies, that attendance is a matter of interpretation and that a firm can keep its documents so secure that nobody works with them.

The retreat that continues to provide
Pemberton Rook's partners have sent avatars to a seminar on being present, heard a solo Atlantic rower explain teamwork and continued to examine why its five-star hotel was insufficiently special. The original LinkedIn incident now appears less like an isolated failure and more like an unusually candid preview.

A legal dispute with two exclusive owners
The List Group and Founders House each claim the right to the same £800 million American club expansion. Strake Pell and Bracket Legal are in opposing corners. The most dependable part of the brief so far is that everybody expects it to be expensive.

Also this week
Pemberton Rook's enterprise search can tell you to ask Sir Giles in eleven languages. Hargreaves Crake's secure portal heard about a merger after the press did. Bletchley Frost has commissioned a wellbeing review for its AI agents, who have been required to complete a 96-question survey by dawn. And a client has asked whether a governance product includes governance.

Read the week's fictional reporting on The Unbillable. No client relationships were improved by this email, but several were confidently described as strategic.
